Three African ports and two Korean ports win five of the eight prizes awarded in this seventh edition
IAPH is delighted to announce the winners of the #IAPH2025 Sustainability Awards following yesterday’s gala awards dinner of the IAPH 2025 World Ports Conference which took place in the Portopia hotel in Kobe, Japan.
From the 112 projects submitted 7 ports walked away with 6 category awards and 1 special award. Africa region came out on top with three winners coming from ports in Ghana, Kenya and Benin. Two ports winning from the Republic of Korea meant that country has won for three consecutive years. A Japanese port won an award for the first time, while Port of Antwerp-Bruges won for the fourth time.
IAPH technical director Antonis Michail commented: “This year’s edition broke all records: number of initial submissions, the 7600+ people who voted and the expanded jury which now reaches 15 to score the qualifying finalists.” Our database of now 516 projects will continue this upward trajectory with so many projects from ports taking part for the first time.”
Congratulations to Incheon Port Authority who win an Award for the first time. The jury liked the innovative use of several technologies with one jury member commenting: “This is the future of infrastructure management” Project is here.
This is an impressive fourth win for the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. The jury said it stood out as a visionary project unique in use of the five different human senses. Project is here.
This is the first ever win for a Japanese port. The jury was impressed by the 121 separate projects the plan entails as well as the financing element which made the plan stand out. Project is here.
This is the first time the Ghana Ports wins an award, with the jury considering its good community outreach making a lasting impact with thoughtful integration of health, education, and environment. Project is here.
This is the second award for KPA, who last won in the very first edition in 2019 with its CSR education and health programme. Project is here.
The jury felt this was a very well-rounded project with a solid strategy, where tech and innovation meet resulting in employee safety and wellbeing. Project is here.
