IAPH statement on outbreak of hostilities in the Middle East

Port of Jebel Ali.

At IAPH, we are deeply concerned about the attacks which have taken place over the past 72 hours on ports throughout the Middle East.

We share the IMO’s concern about the attacks on seafarers and the tragic loss of life in the region. Our thoughts are with the families of those affected.

Port workers also find themselves at the forefront of this conflict. They are at risk of injury or worse while these attacks persist, both inside and outside port gates.

IAPH calls upon governments and international institutions to ensure that measures taken by port authorities and terminals to protect port workers are aligned, as far as practicable.

As such, IAPH is taking steps by convening an extraordinary meeting of its risk and resilience committee this week to share expertise among members on how to deal with and mitigate risk in the event of hostile attacks to port infrastructure.
